What it is

The enneagram is best known as a classification into 9 different personality types. “Ennea” means nine. It is a symbol, which can explain certain correlations in our behaviour. It describes nine different ways in which our mind understands reality.

Less known is the enneagram of the heart. This symbol describes the transforming potential of the heart. The enneagram of the heart is also called the enneagram of virtues and passions. The passions describe how we feel, when our life takes place within the limitations of the ego or our personality structure. The word passion is used here in its original meaning as “suffering”. The nine passions are: anger, pride, deceit, envy, avarice, fear, gluttony, lust, indolence. The virtues describe what happens to the heart when we are in touch with essence, when we arrive at ourselves: serenity, humility, veracity, equanimity, non-attachment, courage, sobriety, innocence, action. The passions are also called false refuges, when we have lost the way to ourselves, we seek refuge here. The virtues describe how we feel, when we realise the truth and apply it to our lives. The virtues describe how we find the way back home. Finding the way from passions to virtues is crucial for our inner development and discovering who we essentially are.

This workshop is informative, you can get to know the enneagram in an intensive way, but at the same time it is a retreat, a spiritual practice in inner transformation. The enneagram offers a deep understanding of the correlation between personality and spirituality. It is a tool to arrive at your essence.

This retreat takes place in an intensive module of 7 days. After a period of meditation there is a teaching. This is followed by a practice of self-examination and an in-depth reflection. There is also room for support on individual issues

HOW TO PREPARE

Although not mandatory, it is recommended to have a general understanding of and a basic experience with Enneagram work before participating in this workshop with Samarona. It is recommended to know which Enneagram Type you are and to have a general feeling how this shops up in your day-to-day life. This could be done by doing an online Enneagram Test, read about the different types, but preferably to have had a typing session from an Enneagram Expert. Kanika gives Enneagram Typing Sessions and facilitates half day and full day workshops from Enneagram to Essence. See schedule.

About the facilitator

Samarona Buunk was born in the Netherlands, where he studied psychology and philosophy. His interest in human nature led him to India in 1980. There he became acquainted with the practice of meditation and with spirituality. His most important teachers are Osho, J. Krishnamurti, A.H. Almaas and Faisal Muqaddam. He is an alternative practitioner (psychotherapy), trained in various forms of humanistic psychotherapy: client-centered-therapy, hypnotherapy, dynamic body therapy, primal therapy, rebalancing, tantra and systemic couple therapy. Years of spiritual practice and dealing with life’s challenges – love and separation, success and setbacks, illness
and impermanence – transformed him personally. His work is based on a merging of the practice of meditation and self-inquiry with Western psychotherapy. The basis for his approach is a spiritual perspective, in which it becomes possible to recognise the egoidentifications as such, to let go of them and to find one’s way home to one’s true nature. Since 1989 active in his own practice and in leading seminars and trainings in spiritual psychotherapy at various institutes in Europe and Asia. In 2018, his first book “Das Innere Zuhause – Was Spiritualität heute bedeuten kann” (The inner home – What spirituality can mean today) was published by Innenwelt Verlag in Cologne. His second book “Der innere Buddha – Selbstentfaltung vom Inneren Kind zum wahren Selbst” (The inner Buddha – Self-unfoldment from the inner child to the true self) will be published in 2021. Samarona was a student of Sandra Maitri for 10 years (1996-2005), one of the experts in the field of the enneagram. He has been a student of the Ridhwan School of A.H. Almaas since 1996 and a student of Faisal Muqaddam from 1997-2002. He has been an Osho Sannyasin since 1980 and has also had several meetings with J. Krishnamurti.
